- 1). Turn the Dakota's engine off. Open its hood and disconnect the battery with a socket wrench. Wait twenty minutes for the air bags to shut off.
- 2). Remove the protective cover of the instrument panel by disengaging the two clips securing it. Remove the two screws holding the instrument panel into the Dakota.
- 3). Insert the flathead screwdriver between the instrument panel and the dashboard and pry it towards you. If it feels like you are about to break the dashboard, consider removing the two upper dashboard screws to give you more room to work with.
- 4). Disconnect the panel's electrical connector situated on the underside of the instrument panel. Pull the instrument panel out of the dakota. All of the bulbs will now be accessible. They are located on the underside of the Dakota's instrument panel.
- 5). Access the desired light bulb by removing the locking clip holding it in. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push a new bulb into the socket. Repeat for all burnt out bulbs. Reassemble the instrument panel in the reverse order of its removal. Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
